I did my interview with my grandfather Greg. I asked him if he would be ok if I asked him a few questions for an interview. He said that would be fine. It was around seven o'clock  and we sat in our silent living room talking. it was a very quiet night and we could not hear any sounds other than a few cars passing by the house. my grandfather is wearing his usual plaid jacket and striped shirt. he has hair but not a lot of it.

he seems enthusiastic about speaking to me and is very excited to begin. My grandpa speaks normally yet kind of fast.

I start with the first question.

‘’What was school like for you as a child?’’ I ask. He ponders this for a minute and then replys softly “Education was very basic and very goal oriented yet friendly. Most teachers were passionate. yet school was challenging at times.” And then I go to the next question.

“What did you do for fun as a kid?” he replied faster then the first time. “Sports,I also loved to play imaginary games and lots of table games, I also played with my family during gatherings.”

The next question probably took the longest for a reply.”What was the one dream you wanted to come true the most as a kid?” and he replied “I wanted to become a professional baseball player, sadly that never happend”

I went to the next question as a car quietly goes down the street. “What was work like when you first started?” he replyed “my first job was a Recreation leader. it was something I was naturally good at and it became my career, it just felt like it was what I was meant to do.” I thought this was very interesting in many ways personally what I was learning from a very interesting person.

Then i finaly got to the last question “What are your top five favorite things to do in the present?”

“1.I love being with my grandkids friends and family.”
“2.One of my favorites would be playing golf with my friends in tournaments.”
“3.I love to travel to amazing places around the world.”
“4.I also like to hike difficult trails that give me a good challenge and I also like to have a great time hiking easy trails as well.”
“5.I also like to donate my time to home construction groups and make new friends while I help build a home for a new family.”

I say “Thank you for your time” and walk out of the living room and downstairs to my room where I sit looking over the paper.

The most interesting thing I learned is that my grandpa loves to work with people all over the place and loves to make new friends. The most surprising thing I learned was that my grandpa wanted to be a baseball player, I never pictured a man who likes football and pickle ball in the present would want to be a professional baseball player.Yet the most amazing thing I learned was that my grandpa is a lot like me playing board games, imaginative games, and visiting relatives, which are some of my favorite things to do. Also we both love golf and baseball apparently and I enjoy pickle ball games with him too. I find it really cool how awesome my grandpas life was and still is.

From playing sports to board games and golf my grandpa has had an amazing life helping others before himself and making those peoples lives better. Many people at the atascadero state hospital know him because of how long he worked there you can ask almost anyone what they where to him and they probably will all say it was the most happy times of their lives.

  • Johnny: “Stay gold.”

I think Johnny said this as his dying words because he was refuring to the poem nothing gold can stay that pony told him in the church because johnny thought Pony was a good person and he wanted him to stay that way.
